SOHO Conferencing Endpoint
Development of two custom video cameras that were integrated into a larger system designed to provide a video conferencing capabilities and residential surveillance to the consumer market.
The cameras supported H.264 video codecs and Linux 2.6. The project included F/W, H/W and a custom enclosure development.
Technology investigation, engineering analysis and prototyping of a low cost, high volume custom pico projection engine for the consumer market.
This program was undertaken prior to the advent of the LED projection systems available today and included an exploration of then available technologies (LCD, LCOS, DLP, LED), system design and prototyping of custom projector solution. The application had extremely aggressive cost-performance targets within very constrained package and heat parameters. In addition to the integration of the electronics, the prototype also required detailed optics modelling and the design & fabrication of a custom 3 element lens
Automated Flight Information Reporting System
As part of a large, multi-site development team, Au-Zone assisted our client with the full product development cycle of a satellite based real-time monitoring and communications system for use aboard commercial aircraft. The product was developed in accordance with DO-178B process guidelines to DAL D.
Heavy Oil Tank Monitor
Development of a complete turnkey system to monitor the fluid levels in a heavy oil tanks.
Custom sensor arrays were developed for generating a temperature profile of the tank, and interface hardware and software to gather the array data, process the data, and determine the tank levels. The field installed software designed to be installed in hazardous locations, and are certified to Class I div 2. Included H/W and F/W architecture, design implementation, F/W development, proto builds and design verification, transition to manufacturing, and certification.
Power Substation Monitor & Data Concentrator
Development of the primary processor card to provide automatic polling and retrieval of data from end devices on the power substation or distribution network.
Included H/W and F/W architectural decisions, design implementation, F/W development, proto builds and design verification.
The device extends the functionality of existing gas flow meters to support USB flash drives for data capture. Data collection tasks that previously required a PC with serial port and custom software, now require the operator to have only an inexpensive USB flash drive. Data collection is now quicker and easier, and automated - reducing the need for operator training

Custom Linux BSP
- Custom development of a complete Linux OS BSP and custom device drivers for a new avionics data acquisition and satellite communications solution.
- System architecture included AMCC PowerPC 440 processor along with custom FPGA, DSP co-processor and numerous peripheral devices
Development of a proof of concept, animal tracking and behavior monitoring device. Device is placed around the neck of large mammals for several months and then retrieved for review of animals behavior such such as migration routes, feeding habits and day to day activities.
